Luka Doncic has somehow made what has been a fairly dull offseason in terms of trades and signings all about him.
Starting out, Doncic shocked LA Lakers fans with his new physique, sharing pictures and videos of himself looking considerably slim.
Then, he made sure to help out his team, as Doncic recruited Marcus Smart to the Lakers after the former Defensive Player of the Year got bought out by the Washington Wizards.
And after Doncic re-signed with the Lakers for $165 million, fans are excited to see what this new version of him – ‘Skinny Luka’ as fans call him – can do for them next season.
Luka Doncic explains motivation behind new and improved physique
Luka Doncic spoke in an interview with Complex News recently, ahead of his participation in the EuroBasket tournament.
When talking about his recent transformation, Doncic admitted that he was motivated to be his best self, rather than paying attention to any of the criticisms he has faced for his physique and conditioning.
“Just being the best that I can be, you know. Nothing specific from the outside. Obviously, athletes need to relax sometimes. We’re working every day. Just being the best that I can be.
“I don’t really pay attention to that a lot. Everybody, all the time, is going to say something. Not everybody, but every day, there is going to be something.
“Anybody can say anything. Just trying not to pay attention to that. Lock in and do what I do.”
Luka Doncic excited for new LA Lakers roster to succeed next season
Speaking further in the interview, Doncic addressed the new LA Lakers roster and how he is mentally preparing in the short and long term to be the face of the franchise.
“Great. I can’t wait to get started. We put a team together. A whole preseason with the guys, practicing? I can’t wait to start.
“Honestly? Nothing specific. Like I said, I will be the best that I can be. At the end of the day, I’m playing basketball. I want to win. That’s it, that’s our goal. From the start to the finish of the season.”
Doncic is singularly focused on winning championships with the LA Lakers. As time goes on, he will get the chance to cement himself as the face of the Lakers.
But for now, as he looks to enter his first full season with the Lakers, Doncic has set some big goals, and he hopes to accomplish them come June of 2026.
